——ABOUT——
Despite the Myanmar junta’s ongoing reign of terror and political violence following the 2021 coup, civilians, human rights defenders (HRDs), and civil society organizations continue to resist, fighting for democracy and human rights while striving to end the junta’s illegal rule. However, as crackdowns intensify, many HRDs and journalists have been forced into exile to protect their lives and sustain their struggle. In exile, they face high-risk environments, uncertainty, and immense challenges, particularly in the borderlands. Even after crossing borders, they remain vulnerable to transnational repression, legal insecurity, and the daily struggle for survival due to a lack of legal status and resources. This event will feature Exile Hub, an organization dedicated to supporting Myanmar activists abroad. This event delves into the situations and difficulties facing HRDs working in high-risk environments, highlighting the resilience and determination of those who continue to resist despite extreme threats. Additionally, the speakers will discuss their experiences in supporting HRDs in urgent needs.Exile Hub was formed to support human rights defenders and media professionals facing immediate threats from the junta for their essential work. Since then, they have been a dedicated and reliable support system for media professionals and human rights defenders to safely carry on their professions. Exile Hub’s mission is to enable Human Rights Defenders (HRDs) to securely continue their professions and amplify the voices that contribute to Myanmar’s critical discourse. Exile Hubachieves this by providing holistic support to media professionals and emerging pro-democracy activists defending and fighting for human rights both within and beyond borders.
